From the preceding sections it is evident that a shunt motor is essentially a constant speed motor, while series motors are useful in applications where the variation in load is large and the motor should start on a heavy load.Similarly, cumulative compound motors are useful under conditions where series motors are used. The applications of these types of dc motors, based on their performance characteristics, can be sum marised as given below. Shunt motors:- For driving constant speed equipment, such as, lathes, centrifugal pumps, machine tools, blowers, fans, reciprocating pumps and constant speed lien shafting. Series motors:- For traction work involving lifts, cranes, electric railways, conveyors, hoists, trolley cars, etc. Compound motors:- These are used for applications involving intermittent high torque loads, such as hoists, punches, shears, stamping processes, rolling mills conveyors, elevators, etc. | |
